L.A. based interiors firm Alexander Design create spaces that are personal, luxurious and livable. Their work is a mix of contemporary, custom and vintage pieces, richly layered and carefully curated. It's all about relaxed family living that is stylish yet functional, chic yet authentic, effortlessly elegant. The designer's own home is the perfect example. Neutral, natural and fabulous.

A renovated Paris apartment

I am hopelessly in love with this 110m² apartment in Paris' 9th arrondissement. It makes me desperately want to collect some beni ourain rugs (that I've been avoiding forever because they don't mix well with cat barf), hang a black shag rug on a wall, get husband to build some built-ins and paint them a bold colour, paint a tree mural, get another cat but this time a black and white that's floofy, have some steel and glass walls built somewhere for something.... By Batiik Studio. (Photos: Bertrand Fompeyrine & Guillaume Loyer)

I am smitten with the neon yellow detail on the top of the baseboards. So subtle and awesome. Also cool how it ties into the bedding below.

A fresh and colourful take on traditional

Bright yellow walls, grahic patterned curtains and stripes add some pretty bold and playful touches to this other wise fairly traditional home in California. Julie Goldman of J.Latter Design took things up a notch. Several notches really.

A break...then a new look!

Hey folks. Looks like Jo and I will be taking a break for the rest of the week, something we never EVER do because.....we're launching a new look to the blog!!! All sorts of newness will be part of this launch - a new blog platform, a new colour scheme, a new layout, a new fun logo, a new way or keeping our content organized, and an overall newly improved DTI! Stay tuned for this launch, as we are SO excited about it. It has been a long time coming and we really hope you all like it.

I thought you might like a teaser. It took alot of back and forth with the developers to get the colours right and after all that I can't even remember what shades we finally decided on but it goes a little something like this....

We got the idea from my recent dining room remodel which I have been working on alot lately and hope to also share soon after the new blog launch. I have a little peek of that too...

See you soon!!!

Nothing beats neutrals

Hey dear readers. The blog redesign is taking a bit longer than expected so in the meantime Jo and I will share a post here and there so you don't forget about us, and because we are frankly going through withdrawal. I guess that is what posting daily for over 11 years does to you. I came across this Los Angeles home this morning by Alexandra and Michael Misczynski of Atelier AM and had to share because I am dying over the earthy, rustic, neutral feel of the spaces.

Raw yet warm

Because there is nothing hotter than the combination of concrete, velvet and black.
With a humble and intimate approach to the interior, Nærvær is formed by a casual atmosphere with small spaces and niches for guests to enjoy. With an interior design defined by an array of stone, wood and metal, the materials are all natural and have deliberately been altered in order to create dark and industrial surfaces that matches the mood of the place. This conscious focus on tactility brings a warm, material richness to the interior that naturally compliments the raw concrete walls and industrial framework of the space. By NORM.ARCHITECTS.

Stalking while we're waiting

Hi everybody! We're still here. The new blog is coming along just fine. We're tidying up and fine tuning. What a job to move 11 years of content from one platform to another. Phew! Almost there. In the meantime lets enjoy a little real estate stalking in the salubrious Sydney suburb of Woollahra. Colour, fabulous art, historic home, modern living, leafy green courtyard and great location. It even has the current "it" chair in Australia, the Malawi chair welcoming you on the front veranda. Link here while it lasts.

Loft love

Have I told you how much i love a loft? The soaring ceilings, the open plan living, the industrial vibe. Add a wall of books,a scattering of colourful rugs and a fabulous collection of personal pieces and I want to move right in. A dreamy Paris apartment

I could not love this Paris apartment more. Seriously spectacular detail. By Studio Razavi Architecture.

Before Baron Haussmann started gutting Paris under Napoleon the 3rd, a wave of modernization had started in the center of Paris where new buildings had gone up according to a different set of rules which would ultimately lead to what is known as the Haussmannian type. This apartment is located in such building and its decorative influence (both on the facade and inside apartments) bares a Greek influence, rather than Neoclassical, which would be generalized for later buildings.
As in most apartment renovations in older buildings, the layout was radically modified as the kitchen was brought right next to the front entrance and left as an open space and a master suite was created where the kitchen was formerly located. We undertook heavy restoration of original features (more specifically a remarkable wood floor) and created a smooth transition with remodeled areas so as to preserve the feel of an early 19th century apartment. Whenever possible, contemporary elements were introduced which, in combination with the furniture selection, create a lively and modern interior.

Love the vibe in this home designed by L.A. based designer Barbie Palomino. Some dark paint choices make it moody, with furnishings that give it a groovy, mid-century feel. I dig all of this.

I continue to crush on the fabulous Parisian apartments the ladies of Desjeux Delaye have designed. I continue to adore the details and the drama and the addition of colour. This dining room (though I'm unsure why it has a sink) is killer! LOVE that shelving! And the mirror!

A family home in Tel Aviv

A big thanks to interior designer Scott Talmon for sending over photos of one of his recent projects. This is the home of a young family in Herzliyah, a district of Tel Aviv, Israel. The current homeowners bought the 30 year old home from the original owners , so as you would guess, it needed a lot of updates and modernizing including opening up walls, both interior and exterior and renovating the kitchen and bathrooms. The renovations and design were done on a very limited budget. The result is modern, family-friendly and timeless. Great job Scott!

There are three things I know when it comes to gardens. 1) I love gardening on a weekend, 2) I love super lush plantings and 3) I love Amanda Oliver's gardens. Amanda runs a small landscape design and garden making company in Melbourne with a focus on the plants. Oh such beautiful plants!

A completely renovated home all in white

A 150 m2 home that was uninhabited for quite some time in Barcelona with no personality and lacking in light and flow was totally transformed by Bárbara Aurell, interior architect and designer of Espacio en blanco. I would guess Bárbara has a thing for white, and it seems so do these homeowners. This apartment was transformed with lots of white paint and furnishings and the result is beautiful. And the bathroom is to die for! Via Nuevo Estilo
